NIOS was founded by the  Ministry Of Education, Government of India in 1989 from CBSE.  Its mark sheet clearly mentions "Government of India," which gives it more authenticity.

Since, it is constituted under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. NIOS has an equivalent weight age to that of CBSE and ICSE, making it a viable option for students who wish to pursue higher education. This is one of the three boards under Ministry Of Education, Government of India.

The Board follows the Open schooling educational Model/ system which is a blended schooling in online/offline programmes with classroom participation in certain subjects asides regular schooling. This seeks systematically to remove barriers to learning, whether they are concerned with age, time, place or space. With open learning, individuals take responsibility for what they learn, how they learn, where they learn, how quickly they learn, who helps them and when they have their learning assessed. The education is “Learner Centric”. However, this operates under a controlled environment, rules, and procedures. In fact, present National Education Policy (NEP 2020) has advocated this model of education. As Envisaged by NEP 2020, All recognized Boards come under “One India, One Education” policy. So, a recognized board candidate can transfer his credit score to NIOS Board and continue education.

NIOS board is a valuable option for students who are preparing for competitive exams like IIT-JEE, PMT (NEET), CA, CS, ICWA, CLAT, and other professional and academic courses. It is constituted under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. NIOS has an equivalent weight age to that of CBSE and ICSE, making it a viable option for students who wish to pursue higher education.
Its mark sheet clearly mentions "Government of India," which gives it more authenticity. Students who pass out of NIOS are eligible to apply government-run or private university. They are equally eligible as compared to students from other boards like ICSE/CBSE/UP board or any other state-run board for intermediate and high school examinations.
In the present percentile scenario of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), NEET, Common University Entrance Examination (CUEE), NIOS has the most competitive percentile score among national boards and provides a great benefit to the aspirants.

NIOS Board follows same NCERT syllabus under National Curriculum Framework (NCF) as CBSE or any other Central Board sponsored institutions and hence there is no let down on standards.

NIOS Board recognized autonomous institutions are “regular” institutions with regular education and also act like nodes for blended education of various modes like online or any such support. The schools have all such infrastructure facilities, including play areas, laboratories mandated by the Board.

The NIOS Board Education model ,imbibing the NEP 2020 and the standards, which the school follows, gives enough opportunities for the students/learners to go beyond the curriculum, acquire knowledge useful for competitive examinations. Paced learning in Secondary and Senior secondary stages with the choice of subjects and stage wise clearing the subjects within the prescribed years, with less burden ,enables the learner to get prepared for Common University Entrance Examination,JEE,NEET and other competitions.
